My Favorites THIS Month - May 2010

May has been a bit of a struggle for my garden as many favorites that were blooming like crazy in April decided to take a breather in May due to unseasonably warm temperatures and dry climate.  Not to worry, though, as there is still plenty happening!  Here's some of my May favorites...

The orchids that I purchased a couple of months ago are still in amazing bloom!  A few plants have sent up new shoots with fresh buds, insuring blooms for a couple more months!

The young firebush is coming alive and showing some pretty color!

My first frangipani / plumeria to bloom is definitely taking its time!  It's worth it, though!  It's hard to believe that this time last year, I didn't even know what a frangipani was!  How things change!!

Hey!  What are you two doing in my May line-up?!  It looks like Louie and Chico got tired of the flowers and Lola getting all of the attention!

The vinca are keeping my landscape colorful while the rest of the garden awaits the rainy season.  And the Mandavilla produced their first blooms of the season this week.

The Pentas and Mexican Heather are also in beautiful bloom, flanked by the purple fountain grass and pothos trailing up the cabbage palm.

The El Capitolio hibiscus is growing like crazy!

The butterfly milkweed is blooming!  Come here little butterflies!!

The purple cone flower, echinacea, is also blooming in my front entry garden.

This pretty little Earth Star, planted in a giant bird of paradise stump, is producing a new bud.

The cacti are blooming now too!  Beautiful!

One of my favorite ground covers provides year-round color in green and burgandy - the oyster plant.

Someone else finds my May garden interesting...can you see him?

How 'bout now?!  He sees you!

He's our newest neighborhood resident.  He's quiet enough, but...!

He's headed over to Simply Susan's to check out all the other favorite May blooms.
Please join him...he's friendly...I promise!!

AHHHHHH!!! Is that an alligator??? Way to freak me out! Other than that your blooms are looking fab as ever. Our orchids are looking really pretty still, but we are all pumped up about the vegetables we have been eating.

Thanks for all the great pics- LOVE your dogs.

You really have some beauties, and I love your orchids. Yikes a 'gator in the mix. Your dogs are adorable. They know they have it made.

Enjoy your gardens and try to keep cool and not work too hard outside.

Louie and Chico better watch out for that 'gator! Your garden is very colorful even during its "breather." I'm super jealous of your orchid and plumeria blooms. Mine are just leaves. I think all of our gardens are looking forward to the rainy season. It's really HOT out there.

Hey, don't bring that gator over here...we've got plenty of our own. :-) Your orchids are still looking lovely...those phal blooms really last a long time. Your firebush, plumeria, hibiscus and mandevilla are wwwaaaayyyy ahead of mine. Maybe I'll have some of those to share next month. Louie and Chico are adorable! You'll have to do a future post on them. Thanks for participating.

Hi Kimberley,
It's all looking absolutely lovely, except the alligator!...a bit dodgy having one of those in your garden I would imagine.

Kimberly: I felt the same way about my May garden. Also probabaly I did not have many plants anyway, I am adding my collection every month, but not too many to show now... Yours is very beautiful! Love the orchid, Mandavilla and the frangipani flowers! That little Earth Star looks very exotic!

Wonderful orchids! I love that white one with purple spots. I am still jealous that you have blooms on your frangipani! Mine have leafed out beautifully, but no buds yet. Don't they have the most wonderful fragrance? Love that Earth Star! That's a brom type I need to add to my collection. Hmmm...I think I've got a few bird stumps I could use as planters.

Little Louie and Chico are so cute! They certainly look like they're enjoying the attention. Do keep them away from that gator! My husband's grandparents, who lived on a lake, lost their little Shih Tzu to a gator many years ago. Very sad.

My dear, you mentioned stomach flu in that last post?
We just got back from U.K. and you'd have thought we were in the outer regions of Mongolia or? No idea what was up, but on our anniversary evening, my dear T was hugging the porcelain and feverish. I felt punky for days.
Love the Earth Star! xo

I love your Moth Orchids, especially the purple one. I have two, but right now they are out of bloom.

My word Kimberly how do you garden with alligators? LOL! I would never get use to that. Your orchids are so beautiful. I love the white one with the purple dots. Gorgeous. Those pups are so laid back and look like they don't have a care in the world LOL! Their cute. Have a wonderful weekend.

Your Orchids are really pretty! The frangipani is very pretty too, I've only heard of them, never had seen a flower of one until yours.
I had to enlarge to double check that was an alligator. I'm not sure I'd want to be gardening with that guy around.
