The View-Master

Remember the View-Master?  When I was a kid, this was a GREAT toy!  To see the images so close up and in 3-D popping out right toward your face was CRAZY FUN!!

Today, my personal "View-Master" supply consists of a Sony 7.2 mega pixel Cybershot point-and-shoot camera or the Canon Powershot SX100IS with 10X optical zoom.  Not big, professional cameras, but they get the job done.  Following are some random shots that I especially like and wanted to post.  Seriously, completely random, but kind of cool!

Sweet little succulent - so many colors in this one shoot!

This is one of my favorites for some reason - these berries were just peaking through this palm leaf.

The underside of a giant philodendron leaf...the veins are huge!

The boding trunk of the Floss Silk Tree -
my friend Florida Girl of Peace in the Valley turned me on to this bizarre tree.

The center of a variegated Agave

The thick, dreadlock-ish roots of a palm tree

Leaf spores

A sweet little lady bug hiding under a citrus leaf.

This Gardenia bud looks like a piece of candy!

A gardenia in bloom.

This one snuck in here...have you ever had one of those mornings?!?!  UGH!!

The grape vines after the rain.

The sunny, cheerful patterns of one of my canna lilies.

This little tiny dragonfly took a break to pose for me.

Sandy got a big kick out of the little dragonfly!!

Looking into the center of a bromelaid.

This is a repeat photo from my recent visit to the Tropical Ranch Botanical Gardens,
but it's definitely worth a second look!  Striped bamboo!

Hope you enjoyed this post of randomness.  Until my View-Master wanders again...

Stunning photography! You certainly have an eye for composition of a shot. Very nicely done - and worthy of the View Master!

I really must get around to buying a decent camera. I keep on getting so close, but then at the last minute I shy away, questioning whether I'd really use an SLR.

Nice chuckle for my morning seeing your "coffee." I've been there too many times to count. Love the striped bamboo, you've captured it well. I'm glad you shared your random shots. They are all a different look at the garden.

Ah, the Viewmaster! A favorite from childhood. I bought each of my kids this toy when they were little, but it just didn't hold the same appeal for them. Times have indeed changed. As for my grown-up viewmaster, I have the Canon Powershot myself right now, though I often want to hurl it into the river or slam it against a brick wall.

Anyway, love that shot of the fruit peeping through the palm leaf. And aren't those thorns on the floss silk tree splendid? Is that tree in your garden?

Ha! Apparently your coffee maker presumed that perhaps you needed hot water for tea? Really, the hardest thing most mornings around here, is making coffee, before drinking any coffee! I haven't seen a Viewmaster in years, but they were such great fun. I love the photo of your variegated agave, it's beautiful. That Floss Silk tree though looks rather formidable!

What a great post! I love the random collection of shots with the view-master theme. Probably my favorite is the underside of the leaf-Now that is architecture at Nature's finest.

I used to love my viewmaster! I think one reason your pictures turn out so well is that you have such a good eye for the beauty of plants in the small details :-)

When I came along, I think the view-masters were already vintage -- still cool, though. What I really am jealous of is your camera -- I only have 3X optical zoom. You lucky woman. And lucky for us you use it to share your great shots and beautiful garden!

That giant philodendron shot is amazing, Kimberly. Feels like I'm in the prehistoric rainforest, looking up and hoping I'm invisible to nearby predators. ;) Also, although I would never ever plant bamboo (it's a terrible invasive here), I heart the striped version. Thanks for the intro.

Fabulous photos! The berries peeking through the palm leaves is one of my favorites, too! And the striped bamboo is very cool.

I'm beginning to want a new camera. Mine is a ten year old hand me down from my son. It has 3.2 mega pixels with 3x optical zoom, and it was something in its day! I have an old view master that belonged to my grandparents, and it's a fun trip back in time, both for the vintage technology and for the photos of another age.

I loved view masters!
Your pictures are great! I don't have a fancy camera either, but I think you can still get some really great shots with any camera.

Gorgeous photos! Thae one with the peeking berries is lovely. So is the one with the grape vine after the rains.
Confession: I use a Canon with only 3x optical zoom. (I'm dying to get a more powerful one but that's another story)
