My starter veggie garden is producing
and we were able to enjoy our
FIRST HARVEST,
although small!!
Little, juicy tomatoes, summer squash, mammoth jalapeno, and sweet basil!
We started the garden at the beginning of March...a little late.
It progressed very quickly and filled in like a bunch of weeds!
I was so hopeful for the cucumbers...
...but they shriveled and died like someone assassinated them!!
I suppose it was the very hot sun and high temps...
I'll have to screen them next time.
The squash came on strong, and has produced...
but I'm not seeing longevity...
maybe it's struggling with the powdery mold?
I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
PS - My friend, Michele, informed me
that squash blossoms are AMAZING fried!!
I'm going to have to try this out!
The jalapenos are thriving as are the yellow and red bell peppers!
Both forms are still green...can't wait for their bright colors to burst!!
And the tomato harvest looks as though there's much more to come!
The basil is wonderful,
and I always let some go to seed in order to resow.
Another reason...
Lola loves the basil tops!
Delectable!
Be sure to check out other harvests today at
Have a great week!!

Very nice harvest! Your bird is beautiful. :)
Nice harvest. I don't usually get such harvests until late July or August. Tomatoes are a long way off for me.
Nice harvest, Kimberly! I am also attempting to grow some veggies in my garden, but seems a long way to go :)
Kimberly ~ What a nice harvest. I'm wanting to start a small veggie garden too, but think I'll have to wait until fall now. It's already getting too hot.

Growing veggies is so fun. You are off to a good start. I just grow a few each season as I don't have much room and have to grow in containers. But, I love having fresh tomatoes and herbs at least. I love squash and yours looks to be doing well.
I never seem to have luck with squash, but I keep trying.Tomatoes, lettuce and all the rest I do fine with. But squash is a no-grow.Home grown tomatoes are always the best, aren't they?
Congratulations on your first veggie harvest! We only just transplanted out peppers and tomatoes this weekend. We won't have ripe fruits on them for weeks. I had no idea cockatoos liked basil tops. Lola seems very pleased with hers!
Congratulations! I hope your harvest has brought you a lot of joy. :) Did you say squash flowers can be eaten? Tell me more... :)
Lola is great. I have some basil for her if she ever comes to visit.
Fantastic! Nice harvest and great post..
Thanks for sharing..
Wow you have a great garden going there! It sure loves you. Terrific vegies and herbs. Planting for food is so satisfying.
Every harvest is a great harvest no matter how small. Good luck with your vegetable garden, it's always a learning process!
Congrats on your first harvest- looks like a great one! Nice pepper.
