Pot Luck

POT LUCK!!  It's a gathering, all right...

(courtesy of www.quddly.com)

but not of food.  Sorry!

Nope...

(internet image)
Not that kind of pot either.

This pot could work...a bit on the expensive side for what I've got in mind, though.

As you may know, I do not always like the traditional in my garden.  My last post featured some wonderful, whimsical creations made from old, recycled tools and garden supplies.

This is where I met the POT MAN

The Pot Man got me thinking of the various creative ways I've housed my plants.

This planter was free...I placed some succulents in the trunks of my White Bird of Paradise
They're thriving here.

Here's another succulent I planted in a ceramic frog I found at a garage sale. He graces my pool deck.
(I apologize for the lighting in these next few photos...pretty poor but you get the Jist)

I recently purchased 5 orchids for $20...4 of them went in this basket I had laying around.

the other one was in a strawberry basket...

It's found a new home in a bamboo shoot
Lola wanted to show you the empty pot before planting the orchid in it.

The orchid meets it's new home...

Much prettier, if I do say so myself!

Poor lighting, but a pretty photo...

Here's a coconut that my husband cut in half sitting next to a little chair and pot that I found a while ago at a garage sale.  These are great planters for my "nursery".  The chair contains a jade plant that was started from the one larger leaf on the right.  I have a soft spot for the string of pearls in the coconut...what a cool plant!!

Of course, you could always pick plants that require NO POT AT ALL such as this air plant and staghorn fern...

or my latest purchase...this sweet air plant that grows in a ball all by itself

But the title of this post is POT LUCK so I had to gather more examples for a true sampling of fun!  I headed to the internet and found this interesting bunch...

This is the Muggly Family that can be found at The Family Store.

Old boots can be a fun planter, or any piece of clothing, I guess...

Sometimes instructions are included with the project as is the case with these dresser drawers...

(check www.instructables.com for this project)

or this old chair...

(instructions found at ehow.com.)

Here's an interesting idea for old tires...

Of course I couldn't leave out jewelry lovers...this one is the bomb!

Not very practical, but jewelry seldom is.

So what's YOUR favorite pot?!?

Oh, you are so clever...not only your posts but your choice of containers, too. So many great ideas it's hard to choose a favorite. You did give me an idea though...I have a small birdhouse made from a coconut that I got in Hawaii that would make a great container for a tillandsia. Thanks for stoking my imagination. P.S. Your orchids look beautiful in that white basket.

Oh, dear, that ring!!! hahaha! Love that pot man! Awesome! I think I've collected enough little clay pots over the years..... I also love your orchid containers. Much more creative than the store-bought baskets mine sit in. Wow. My orchid room suddenly seems so boring. Great post!

LOL. Thanks for a good laugh, not for your choice of the pots, for the funny words in this post! Your post is always so fun! You are very creative to pot your plants! The orchid in the bamboo looks very beautiful! I love string of pearls in the coconut too! And that air plant flower!

So much imagination both in this post and in your pots. The orchid in the bamboo shoot is very nice. All spark creativity in the reader. Of course, I'm a hopeless copycat not usually an original thinker.

That bamboo pot was a definite win move.

What a wonderful creative post! I love the title too! I'm not sure I would plant flowers in a bra, but I could definitely see myself wearing a ring planter :-)

LOL! What a fun posting Kimberly and you are really speaking to me here. I love whimsy planters and ideas. I love the idea of the frog scrubber holder as a planter. Cute! Anything that holds dirt around my house is a potential planter. My son doesn't throw anything away until he asks me if I want to plant something in it.LOL! Although I do not think I will be planting in my bras.
The bamboo piece makes the neatest planter for the orchid though. It just works so well together.

Very creative ideas indeed. Now, it got me thinking ... But then again, I wouldn't dare try out the bra idea in my garden! lol.

Hah, Kimberly, I noted that you credited the photo of pot to the internet! This is a great post with many good ideas. I really like the bamboo with the orchid. Very cool! I like using old tree stumps as pots. The bra? Not sure I have the nerve!

Great post, Kimberly! Gave me a good laugh. I liked all the pots, but my favorite picture is the first one. Does he catch squirrels too?
You did good job with your plants!

Lots of great ideas Kimberly....but the bra planter idea doesn't seem to be catching on :D I like the dresser drawers and old chairs!

10 out of 10 for creativity Kimberly - btw I love that pot man too. Now the bra one is a good one too - that could be quite a talking piece! I've just been given a planter - a bicycle and life size too - its not ready yet to get planted up as there is still a big risk of frost here - but watch this space! I have 2 wheelbarrows planted up just now - one with sweet williams and the other with pansies.

Lovely post Kimberly, as always it was fun reading your funny presentation. What a great collection of creative ideas, both photos and your own idea of collecting them.
My favorite is also the bamboo with the orchid. I like the boots too but it would be too much extra work to polish them.
Have a wonderful weekend!
