I'm not happy. I can't hide it. I'm supposed to be showing all my June favorites, along with everyone else at Simply Susan's monthly meme, but I can't because some of them just didn't show up. Actually NONE of my daylilies have bloomed. I was excited that I'd be able to share my Butterscotch daylily, as it was budding last week. When I checked it last night, it simply wasn't there. Vanished...without a trace. Maybe the rabbit is the culprit?! I don't know. This is what it looked like LAST YEAR.
I expected to showcase the cool blue Lily of the Nile, but no. IF it were in bloom, I'd show it here.
Enough pouting. Let me show you my favorites that ARE in bloom!
The dwarf Powder Puff gets the 1st place award. I love the soft little tufts!
And my new curbside prize bromelaid is sending up a trophy.
She's thanking me for saving her from the dump.
The new butterfly milkweed
The petite little Purple Queen is dainty and beautiful in a grouping.
And the yellow Bulbine displayed pretty yellow stalks for the first time.
My favorite crinums opened up this week too!
Blazing hot yellow Allamanda
And the multi-colored crotons are finally looking strong after a
slow recuperation from the winter cold.
A few additional faves that deserve the spotlight...
Thanks for joining me for my June favorites. Until next time...!

My daylilies did not do as well as I had hoped. I had to dig up my white ones, which I planted two years ago, and which have refused to bloom. Out of eight, six have died. I have two in a pot growing o.k., but I'm thinking they are just a weak variety. I have a ton of them that refuse to bloom so that I can identify them. The single and double ditch lilies are thriving, but the others are just sitting there.
It's just so damned hot and dry! My poor Confederate Rose is wilted every day, no matter how much I water it. The short rains are not enough for it, because it's on the top of the slope down to the swale in the back yard. I have babies I rooted, thank heaven. The last ones I had died from a drought.
Air potatoes are taking over my back yard, and I have no clue how they got there! I'm going on a digging expedition this evening to get rid of as many as I can find.
It's been a rough gardening year, hasn't it?
Although you did not get all the flowers you wanted to bloom on time, you still have lots of gorgeous flowers this month! Your Powder Puff and crinums will be my favorites too! That bromeliad sure reward you for your rescue! Looking forward to your future posts with your bromeliad and daylily, lily of nile pictures!
It's irritating when you wait so long for something to bloom, and then nothing shows up :P My problems mostly are from the lack of rain. I got two flowers on my magnolia this year. One of them dried up and turned brown before it even unfurled. I was so unhappy, because I look forward to those flowers the most :(
They are beautiful flowers, and even croton joins in for a colourful month. But the white bird walking past make me smile..... ~bangchik
Still so much color, not to worry they will bloom when they are ready. The powder puff bloom is a true sign of summer's arrival.

I've yet to grow any bromeliads, but have always wanted to. You've inspired me! Love the shore bird! I should know the name but it escapes me... xo

Dear Kimberly, I am SO disappointed for you. It is not at all like you to be downhearted. Nor should you be for, notwithstanding, your June garden is awash with colour and interest. I never cease to be amazed at what you are able to grow, so much of it 'foreign' to my eyes. Have a really happy weekend!
Don't know why you don't have daylily and agapanthus blooms. Hmmmm.... Anyway, you do have some beautiful flowers, including two of my faves...powderpuff and allamanda. And that bromeliad!!! You are the best curbside gardener ever! Though its pretty, I have to admit I always cringe when I see purple queen. In my first Florida garden, this plant tried to take over the world. I was forever pulling it, and the roots ran deep in the ground, and far from the mother plant.
I understand how you feel Kimberly. I have crinums, agapanthas, and blackberry lily not blooming. I think they are just behind schedule this year. I did have one type of crinum bloom though and promptly get eaten by a lubber grasshopper. GRRR!
Your powderpuff is really blooming its head off and is so soft and fuzzy! Love it. I guess we gardeners need to just enjoy the blooms we are given and be patient for the rest.
Hi Kimberley,
Apart from the unfortunate 'mishap' that you mention, which must have been very frustrating, you do have some amazing plants in your garden.
We can only grow the Aechmea such as your one indoors here. We have had it for 12 years and only got it to flower twice...grrrr! I have never heard of an Allamanda before, what an incredibly clear yellow....stunning!
I am looking forward to seeing more of what you have in the garden.
Kimberly ! I'm sorry about your day lilies girl .. I have a lot of them but would be put out as well if they became a meal ? LOL
You do have some brilliant plants here girl .. and I can't imagine being able to grow them in my garden .. they are so .. 'tropical" ? LOL
I guess that is what happens when you garden all the way down south ? haha
Great post and great plant rescue ! you never know how that will work out but this one is a wow factor for sure !
Joy : )
Ah, your Criniums look gorgeous!
Well, even if some of your faves couldn't make it to the party, there was still plently of colour and vibrancy to see!
I will be keeping my eye out in case that Lily of the Nile does show up at some stage, it sounds like it worth the wait!
Hi Kimberly,
Really pretty showing even without the day lilies. Your crotons have come back nicely and the dwarf powder puff is a good one for lots of color!
I noticed the day lily foliage did really well this year after the cold winter. I think they preferred it. The blooms came out late though... like so many other things. Maybe you have some that are just late. Let's keep hoping!

It is disappointing when some plants don't show for some reason. That's how I'm feeling about Dahlias this year. I love seeing what you have blooming down there, I don't think any of those flowers grow here.
Hello,
You have some very beautiful flower and it's always a pleasure to see a picture on your blog. I like the Crinums, impressive flower.
Kimberly...Sorry to hear your daylilies and Lily of the Nile didn't cooperate with you this month. Sometimes that happens, but you managed to find plenty more beauties in your garden. I love the powerpuff shrub. I remember the large ones from my childhood. Lots of great choices. Thanks for joining in again.
